Maintenance – April/May

Glebe bridges

We have continued cleaning bridges to reveal condition of deck boards, such as the two bridges at the bottom of the Glebe, which were acceptable, but the centre bridge in the Glebe had a broken board and couple very dangerous. So this become an immediate replacement, there are others that need replacement when we can get more boards.

Fancott Bridges

The bridges on the footpath beside the Fancott pub has been cleaned and this revealed more broken deck boards, resulting in a total of six boards replaced. The Bridleway bridge was formally closed for a period in the last year, but the repairs are now complete. This bridge has the vegetation cut back, the waymark post refixed and the boards cleaned.

The mud for the cable contractors work, in the fields here about has dried out. The BW has not been marked out through the crop, but is accessible around the field edge.

The path from Conger Lane (TOD53) through to the bridleway road had a fallen tree, which has been cleared. The bridges have also been cleared of vegetation.

Herne Grange to The Lane

The path (TOD19) that runs from Herne Grange farm to The Lane in Tebworth has a bridge over a watercourse. We have cut the vegetation back and cleaned the bridge. We cleared some fallen trees in the adjacent woodland and the vegetation through a hedgerow.

Toward the motorway

The bridges toward the motorway are showing their age, and the consequences of being muddy and damp. Having cleaned off the bridges we have taken the view that all the deck boards need replacing.

Finally

The nettles and vegetation is growing up. The CBC contractor should be cutting various paths in the next couple of months. As volunteers, we will also try to cut some where it gets bad. Thanks to the landowners who also cut various paths.
